It begins as an unabashed farce. Five grandmothers sing in an amateur folk ensemble at the cultural center of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf. At the choir's tenth-anniversary celebration, the director introduces a new member who is expected to become the new soloist and lead the group toward new horizons. The sweet old ladies immediately begin fighting desperately for their place in the spotlight, turning into true furies.

What should we choose: the familiar and beloved old, or the dazzling but unknown new? What remains in a person's life if they are deprived of what gives that life meaning—the work they love, creativity, art?

What begins as a sharp and funny farce becomes a poignant story about compassion and support, empathy and mercy, love and sacrifice. And beneath it all lies the timeless human experience of loneliness.
