ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
This production is based on Alexander Ostrovsky's play "What You Go Looking For, You'll Find." It is the final part of a trilogy about the adventures of Misha Balzaminov.
Misha is an incurable romantic: kind, dreamy, childishly naive, and trusting. Because of this, the people around him see him as a fool. He lives with his head in the clouds and feels disconnected from the real world. Yet he still has to survive in the middle-class society of nineteenth-century Moscow. Born into a family of modest means but convinced of his own noble nature, Misha sees only one path into the high society where he believes he belongs: marrying a wealthy woman. Frustrated by all his previous failures, he desperately pursues his dream of happiness.
His line, "If I were tsar, I would make a law: the poor must marry the rich, and the rich must marry the poor. Anyone who disobeys—death penalty!" became a well-known quotation.
